The Fishing Trips You Don’t Forget | Coastal Wilderness Adventures

Some businesses sell experiences. Others quietly become part of people’s lives.

That’s what Curtis Smith has built with Coastal Wilderness Adventures on Vancouver Island.  26 years of guiding salmon, steelhead, and trout trips that people return to again and again.

Built Around the People, Not Just the Fishing

Coastal Wilderness Adventures takes guests from all over the world out on the ocean, rivers, and lakes of British Columbia. But the difference isn’t just where they fish, it’s how the day is shaped.

“We often approach our fishing days differently for each group,” Curtis says. “We know what it takes to make a special day, whether it’s a group of guys, a couple, or a family with small kids.”

That flexibility is the product. The fishing is just the setting.

No Hype, Just Honest Days on the Water

“We’re focused on honesty of our offerings,” Curtis explains. “That goes a long way for expectations of a fishing trip.”

No inflated promises. No gimmicks. Just well-run trips that meet the moment, whatever the day brings.

When a Business Becomes a Tradition

After 26 years, the most meaningful moments aren’t the biggest catches, they’re the returns.

“One of the biggest compliments is seeing guests who came as kids now coming back as adults,” Curtis says. “Now they’re bringing friends or their own families.”

That’s when you know it’s working.

The Hat That Keeps the Story Going

The leather patch hats were meant to be something better than typical “tourist” gear and they’ve become part of the brand.

Guests wear them home, get noticed, and bring the story with them. Around town, they’ve become recognizable.

“Other businesses see them and know who they are fishing with,” Curtis says.

What It Comes Down To

Curtis keeps it straightforward:

“Communication. Honesty. Attention to the small details.”

That’s the whole model and it’s why people keep coming back.
