For many Marines and Navy Corpsmen, the bonds formed during service never truly disappear. They simply need a place to reconnect.
That's exactly why the 3rd LAI/LAR Wolfpack Association exists.
Founded by veterans of the 3rd Light Armored Infantry Battalion (LAI) and later 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (LAR), the organization is dedicated to bringing together active-duty Marines, veterans, Navy Corpsmen, and Gold Star family members who share a common history inside one of the Marine Corps' most respected units.

Their mission is simple but powerful: strengthen the bonds forged through service, support veterans during and after their transition to civilian life, and create a nationwide network that helps combat isolation, PTSD, and veteran suicide.
"Our mission is to connect Veteran and Active Duty Marines, Navy Corpsmen, and Gold Star Family members from the 3rd LAI/LAR Battalion to promote brotherhood and continued camaraderie."
A Fishing Trip That Became Something Bigger
The Wolfpack Association traces its roots back to 2010.
A group of veterans who had served together in the early 1990s gathered for a fishing trip at Lake Texoma along the Texas-Oklahoma border. While enjoying the trip, they realized something important.
The fishing was great.
But being together again was even better.
As stories were shared and old friendships rekindled, the group recognized how valuable those connections remained years after leaving the military. The experience inspired a larger vision: creating a place where Wolfpack veterans from every era could reconnect, support one another, and preserve the sense of family they experienced while serving.
That vision became reality in 2014 with the official formation of the 3rd LAI/LAR Wolfpack Association.
"The vision of the Wolfpack Association was to have a place where Veterans of all eras could reinforce the bonds forged in training and in combat by periodically coming together to engage one another as Family."

Supporting Marines, Veterans, and Gold Star Families
Unlike many organizations, the Wolfpack Association is run by people who personally understand the community it serves.
The nonprofit is led by a five-member board made up of veterans and family members connected to the battalion. Every dollar raised goes directly back into supporting active-duty Marines, veterans, and Gold Star families.
The organization's efforts include:
- Veteran networking and support
- Unit reunions and gatherings
- Community-building events
- Educational scholarships
- Support for active-duty Marines
- Assistance for veterans and military families in need
Today, the organization has grown to more than 3,700 members nationwide, creating a network that continues to expand its reach and impact.
"Over the last several years we have seen the association continue to grow, and we have had a bigger impact on the members of the association."

Custom Hats That Carry Meaning
For Wolfpack members, a hat is more than merchandise.
It's a symbol of service, sacrifice, and pride.
The association partnered with Authentic Leather Patch Company to create custom hats that allow members to represent the Wolfpack long after their military service has ended.
"The hats serve as a reminder of the sacrifice the Marines and Sailors made during their time in service."
The response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Members consistently praise the quality, comfort, and design of the hats, making them one of the organization's most popular fundraising items.
"People tell us that they love the quality of the hats, the different styles that we have made, and they're one of our top selling items."

Funding Scholarships and Reunions
The hats do more than build pride.
They help fund programs that directly support Wolfpack families.
One of the association's most important initiatives is its annual Education Scholarship Program, awarded to children of Marines and Sailors who served within the battalion.
Proceeds from merchandise sales also help fund reunions held every two years, giving veterans an opportunity to reconnect, share experiences, and continue building the relationships that have lasted decades.
"The scholarship is given every year to a child of a Marine or Sailor who served in the battalion. It is our way to give back to the Veterans who served."

A Partnership Built on Service
When asked what stood out about working with Authentic Leather Patch Company, Matthew West pointed to something that mirrors the values of the Wolfpack itself: relationships.
"One of the best things about Authentic Leather Patch Company is their customer service. The customer service has been great, and it's so simple to get a hold of someone or get a quick response."
He continued:
"Your company is extremely professional, which makes doing business with you so simple and great."
Advice for Anyone Building Something New
Whether launching a business, nonprofit, or community organization, West believes growth requires action.
"Take risks. You don't know if you're doing the right thing if you don't take risks and learn from them."
It's advice that reflects the Wolfpack Association's own journey, from a simple fishing trip among friends to a thriving nationwide network serving thousands of Marines, veterans, Corpsmen, and family members.

Looking Ahead
The Wolfpack Association's mission is far from complete.
The organization plans to continue expanding support for active-duty Marines, veterans, and Gold Star families while increasing the impact of its scholarship program and assistance efforts.
Their goal remains the same as it was from the beginning: ensuring no member of the Wolfpack ever feels alone.
"We would like to have a greater impact on the members of the association and be able to help them in their time of need."
